This paper examined the implications of neocolonialism in Africa in the 21st century, focusing on the political, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions of continued external influence on the continent. Despite attaining political independence, many African nations remain entangled in unequal relationships with former colonial powers and global institutions that perpetuate dependency through aid conditionalities, trade imbalances, debt traps, and foreign direct investments. The study revealed how neocolonial structures, facilitated by multinational corporations, international financial institutions, and foreign governments, undermine African sovereignty, distort development priorities, and reinforce structural inequalities. Furthermore, it investigated the role of global capitalism and the emergence of new actors (such as China and transnational corporations) in reshaping the dynamics of neocolonial control. Through a critical review of contemporary literature and policy analyses, the paper established that neocolonialism has evolved from direct political domination to more subtle forms of economic and ideological control. The paper recommends for the promotion of economic independence through diversification, strengthening of regional integration and cooperation, encouragement of technological and educational development, and promotion of good governance and accountability. It concludes that for Africa to achieve genuine autonomy and sustainable development, there is a need for renewed Pan-African solidarity, economic diversification, and the strengthening of indigenous institutions to resist exploitative external influences.
